Minister of the Environment and Climate Change Declares the Validation of the #NDC3.0 Document : a key step in advancing Sierra Leone’s climate action agenda under the Paris Agreement.
Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Jiwoh Abdulai has on Thursday 23rd October, 2025 declared the validation of the Nationally Determined Contribution 3.0 document at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Freetown.
The purpose of validation of the NDC 3.0 is for stakeholders across Government Institutions, Donors Partners, Parliamentarians, Activists, amongst others to review and validate the draft document before its submission to Government and onward transmission to the UNFCCC Secretariat.
Declaring the validation of the NDC 3.0 document, the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change entreated participants to treat the NDC3.0 document with urgency through an inclusive and comprehensive approach that could be in readiness to determine Sierra Leone’s position on adaptation measures and climate resilience under the Paris Agreement for the forthcoming Conference of Parties (#COP30) in Brazil. He noted that the NDC 3.0 is Sierra Leone’s action plan which is crucial for its citizenry to own it for building climate resilience across the country.
He acknowledged the critical role of communities to adapt and understand the negative impacts of climate change at local level.
He underscored the relevance of validating the document, affirming that it is the future of Sierra Leone to achieving the required resources to make it climate resilient for its people. He emphasized that stakeholder’s response to climate change should be collective;government institutions, donor partners, traditional leaders, local councils, youth activists, school going pupils amongst others, whose inputs are vital to develop the NDC3.0 for the country’s adaptation measures and resilience under the Paris Agreement.
Minister Abdulai called for participants to come up with a comprehensive document they would sign up to which could track the progress being achieve, and hold everyone accountable to fulfill the necessary actions needed to be achieved to firm up the document.
