The Deputy Minister

Hon. Sobba-Stephens brings a background in human-resource management and education to her role in environmental and climate governance.

Before joining the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change, she was involved in education and was described by Parliament as having developed a number of successful early-childhood and primary-education programmes. She also served as a Member of Parliament and has been associated with the management of a private school.

Her transition from education and human-resource management into environmental governance has given her a strong interest in public awareness, youth engagement, environmental education and community participation.

In 2023, she was nominated as Deputy Minister of the Environment and Climate Change and appeared before Parliament’s Committee on Appointments and the Public Service for vetting.

Since taking office, she has represented the Government of Sierra Leone at national and international engagements on climate change, environmental protection, plastic pollution, circular economy, climate finance, clean cooking, youth participation and sustainable development.
